1. About Us
Startup Name: SafeStick Armenian Mobility Solutions
Our Mission: To provide affordable, reliable, and high-tech independence to the visually impaired community in Armenia through intuitive, hardware-based assistive technology.
We believe that mobility is a fundamental right. Traditional white canes have not changed in decades, leaving users vulnerable to many daily hazards. SafeStick bridges the gap between traditional cane techniques and modern electronic guidance, without requiring complex smartphones or internet connections.
2. Product Description: The SafeStick Module
The SafeStick is a compact, retrofittable electronic module that clips onto any standard white cane. It uses active ultrasonic sensors—working similarly to echolocation in bats—to feel the environment and guide the user through silent, tactile feedback.
Key Features (Using our 3 Items):
Wireless Buttons: Built directly into the handle clip, these buttons allow the user to toggle between “Indoor Mode” (short-range, high sensitivity) and “Outdoor Mode” (long-range) with a single click. Long-pressing activates an emergency SOS alarm.
Vibration Motor (Haptic Guidance): The module translates distance data into vibration. As the user gets closer to an obstacle, the vibration increases in intensity and frequency, acting like a silent, tactile parking sensor for the hand.
Mini Digital Display (Passerby Safety Display): A small, outward-facing screen that provides critical info to the surrounding public. It displays battery life (e.g., “BAT 80%”), connection status, or emergency alerts (e.g., “NEED HELP”).
Added Hardware Components:
Ultrasonic Distance Sensor: Measures distance to objects, detecting obstacles from 20cm up to 3 meters away, including head-level hazards traditional canes miss.
Audible Alarm (Buzzer): Provides sound feedback for button presses and acts as a loud alarm during SOS activation.
3. Business Model
We target a low-cost, high-impact model to ensure accessibility in the Armenian market. By using reliable, off-the-shelf components like Arduino microcontrollers, we keep hardware costs manageable.
Our revenue model is based on direct hardware sales, supplemented by potential partnerships with NGOs and government accessibility programs to subsidize units for low-income users.
4. Structured Project Q&A
What is your startup called?
Our startup is called SafeStick.
What real-world problem does it solve?
Traditional white canes only detect ground-level obstacles right at the user’s feet, missing low-hanging signs, branches, or obstacles. Existing electronic solutions are either too expensive or require smartphone navigation apps that block audio awareness, making navigation unsafe in traffic.
How are all three objects used?
Wireless Buttons: Used on the handle to switch sensitivity modes or trigger an SOS alarm.
Vibration Motor: Provides real-time haptic feedback that pulses faster as obstacles get closer.
Mini Digital Display: Positioned facing outward to show battery status or emergency “NEED HELP” messages to bystanders.
Who are your target customers?
Visually impaired individuals in Armenia seeking independent mobility, as well as disability support NGOs, specialized clinics, and government social security departments.
Why would people choose your solution?
SafeStick is universal (clips to any cane), highly affordable, 100% offline (no internet or smartphone needed), and uses silent, tactile feedback to keep ears open to traffic sounds.
How much would it cost to produce and sell?
How will you reach your customers?
Through partnerships with local Armenian accessibility NGOs (such as the Armenian Association of the Blind), eye care clinics, and direct online demonstration videos.

Because it uses ultrasonic sensors instead of cameras or AI, it cannot identify specific objects (e.g., distinguishing a post from a person) or read signs. It functions strictly as an obstacle detector and relies on battery power.
PART 2: PITCH PRESENTATION SCRIPT
[Hook — Grab Attention]
“Close your eyes for a second. Now, try to imagine walking down a busy street in Yerevan. You hear cars, voices, construction. You have a stick, but you can only feel what is directly at your toes. Suddenly, you bump your head into a low-hanging shop sign. You are disoriented, scared, and completely reliant on a stranger’s help. For over 200 million visually impaired people worldwide, including thousands in Armenia, this isn’t an imagination. It is their daily reality.”
[Problem — Explain Need]
“The problem is that traditional white canes have not evolved in decades. They are purely mechanical. Standard smart canes exist, but they are expensive luxury items costing hundreds of dollars. Voice-based smartphone apps are confusing, overwhelm the user with audio data, and require dangerous internet dependencies. People need a solution that is simple, reliable, tactile, and most importantly, affordable.”
[Solution — Introduce Product]
*”Introducing SafeStick: Armenia’s affordable, electronic guidance assistant. It is a sleek module that clips onto any existing white cane. It uses ultrasonic waves to ‘feel’ the environment up to 3 meters away—including head-level hazards. SafeStick communicates silently through tactile feedback:
Our powerful vibration motor built into the grip pulses faster as you get closer to an object.
Intuitive wireless buttons let the user change sensitivity modes or send an SOS alert.
An outward-facing mini digital display shows safety information like ‘NEED HELP’ to people nearby.”*
[Business Model — Pricing]
“Our business model is built on accessibility. By using proven microcontrollers like Arduino, making it multiple times cheaper than international competitors. We will reach our customers by partnering with local Armenian accessibility NGOs and medical clinics.”
